Why is sitting bad for you?

Movement is medicine. Sitting for long periods of time – or having a sedentary lifestyle – can be harmful to your body and health. Our bodies are built for movement. So why is sitting bad for you? When we are sitting down, blood capillaries get compressed which limits proper blood circulation. Therefore, moving around helps with blood flow, because our body will be free from compression. As well, movement will also reduce swelling because of the improved circulation. Our spine also becomes affected when sitting down, especially when you are sitting down for long periods of time.

P.S.: This is a gentle reminder that you should probably get up and stretch. Perhaps go on a walk. A combination of fresh air and exercise will give your body a break.
